Kyushu Economic Research Center (KERC)
Contributing to Regional Development Since 1946
The Kyushu Economic Research Center (KERC, commonly known as Kyu-Kei-Cho) was established in 1946 as an independent regional economic think tank through collaboration among industry, academia, and government with a mission to contribute to regional and national economic and social development.
For nearly eight decades, KERC has conducted research, policy studies, and regional development initiatives focused on the economies and industries of the Kyushu, Okinawa, and Yamaguchi regions.In April 2013, KERC was reorganized as a Public Interest Incorporated Foundation under authorization by the Cabinet Office of Japan. While its organizational status has evolved, its commitment to regional development and public service has remained unchanged since its founding.
A Hub for Knowledge Creation, Accumulation, and Exchange
KERC serves as one of the leading research and information hubs in western Japan.
Through its research activities, publications, lectures, seminars, and networking opportunities, the Center promotes:
- Knowledge Creation through economic and social research;
- Knowledge Accumulation through the operation of BIZCOLI (Business Communication Library), one of the region's leading business and economic libraries, as well as through the collection, preservation, and organization of information and resources from Japan and abroad; and
- Knowledge Exchange by facilitating dialogue among businesses, government agencies, academic institutions, and local communities.
By integrating these three functions, KERC contributes to sustainable regional development and informed policymaking.
Public Interest Incorporated Foundation
As a Public Interest Incorporated Foundation certified by the Cabinet Office, KERC is recognized for its significant contributions to society and regional development.
Donations made to KERC are eligible for preferential tax treatment under Japanese tax regulations. Contributions are utilized in accordance with the Foundation's donation acceptance policies and support activities such as research, policy proposals, and initiatives that contribute to the future development of the Kyushu region.
